How To Grow Big And Healthy Strawberries And Strawberry Plants 

Hello experienced and inexperienced gardeners/ growers. I’m going to go over how I have successfully grown strawberries each year since I started this hobby! What I do could be different for others, these are just the tips and tricks I’ve done over the past few years. Learned and lost, I found the perfect steps for growing strawberries in my area.


First thing is first, you should pick the family of strawberries you are wanting to grow. I love growing everbaring strawberry plants, so this could be part of the trick. Who knows? You will just have to try these steps yourself and adjust as needed.

What you have probably been told or even read online in my opinion and experience has been misleading. I’ve always been told to take all the berries and runners off for the first three years to grow a good crown of strawberries.


Once those three years are up, keep the runners off the plant, that way you can grow and stro- oh wait, we aren’t talking about babies. Anyhow, by taking the runners off you allow the berries to grow bigger because they get more water they need.

  1. Pine needles are not a type of straw.
    Straw is an agricultural by-product, the dry stalks of cereal plants, after the grain and chaff have been removed. Pine trees are not a cereal plant, thus, their needles are not straw. The industry might call it straw, but it isn’t.
